OUR MISSION: Leading the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people across the country bring their determination, energy, and passion to the Walk to Defeat ALSŪ . This is an opportunity to bring hope to people with ALS, to raise money for a cure, and to join together to fight for something we care about.
Since 2000, the events have raised over $159 million toward our vision - a world without ALS. The Walk to Defeat ALSŪ funds vital care services for families living with ALS, cutting edge research, and public policy initiatives.
