CLAREMONT AUNTIE CLARES COMEDY CONTEST - is a branch of the original Uncle Clydes Comedy Contest -- LA's Longest Running Comedy Contest -- and YOU pick the winners!
There are 7 preliminary rounds. In each preliminary round, 10 comics perform a five-minute set. A special guest performer or group is invited to perform at "Half Time" and at "Math Time" (the end of the show while the votes are being tallied).
The 1st Place Winner receives $101 cash prize, 2nd Place receives a $50 gift card from Flappers Comedy Club or from another location, and 3rd Place gets a Auntie Clares traditional Wings. The top two finishers will be invited to perform in the Soup-Or-Bowl finals. Each Soup-Or-Bowl Audience Vote winner will receive $500.00 cash, Second Place wins a $50 gift card, and Third place wins a huge basket of wings. Additionally, our Industry Judges Vote will receive a Professional Gig at Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant. (As an added feature to the contest, Flappers will be adding an online voting component via Facebook (TBD). **The producers reserve the right to manage contestants in any way possible or to control placement of contestants in any and all ways possible.**
The Top Two finishers from each Soup-Or-Bowl Finals, (as well as the online winner and/or judges wildcard winner - TBD), will be invited back at the end of the year to participate in Clares Playoff Week --a run of 3 shows held at Flappers Claremont Comedy Club Main Room in December 2016. First Place in each playoff round will win $101, second place will win a $50 gift card, and third place will win a giant side of fries. The Top Three performers from each playoff round will be invited to perform in The Clare´s Cup to be held on Jan 12th 2017 at 8pm in which ONE winner will win the title of Clare's Cup, their name on a huge Trophy, along with a $2000 Cash Grand Prize, a professional gig at Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant. Since making his debut as a stand up comedian in 2003 Gus Arredondo has known comedy was his calling. The roars of laughter and the thunderous applause he received that night was his mandate to pursue this new found passion. Between 2003 and 2010, Gus traveled the country and shared the stage with such esteemed comics as Carlos Mencia, Gabriel Iglesias, Aries Spears, Jon Lovitz and Dane Cook to name a few. He went on to establish himself as a solid, high energy comedian with a knack for painting a visual picture with his carefully chosen words. Through his live appearances and social media Gus has built a loyal following across the country and loves interacting with the people who come to his shows. A modern and creative gal from San Antonio,Texas; Sherry has always enjoyed entertaining her family, friends, and coworkers with her observational humor and her animated voice impressions. Sherry studied voice acting and her voice coach encouraged her to do standup comedy. Two years ago, she mustered the courage to go to an open mic at Flappers Comedy Club in Claremont. After doing several open mics at Flappers, she began getting booked at Flappers regularly in Claremont and Burbank. In between comedy gigs, Sherry works as a freelance Production Designer for Film and Television projects. Sherry´s films have screened at Comic Con in San Diego and the Burbank Film Festival. BOOK
Joseph Aceves graduated from Cal State Long Beach earning a degree in Film and Television production with a focus on directing. His senior thesis "Jobless" has been recently submitted to film festivals internationally. Although pushed towards directing, Joseph´s passion belongs to comedic writing. He consistently works on the craft of comedy by frequenting ego humbling open mics. His comedy improvisation background at the Upright Citizen´s Brigade shapes how he approaches the art of creating. After falling in love with comedians like Bill Hicks, Joe Rogan, Bill Burr, and Doug Stanhope I began to do stand up at an open Mic night in Palm Desert CA, a place called The Hood Bar and Pizzeria where, most people just wanted to see the next musical act, this is where I learned to bomb. After moving to Claremont CA and discovering actual comedy clubs, all those performances before are serving their purpose. Ryan is a regular the nationally syndicated, "Bob and Tom Radio Show". His 1st comedy album, "You Were Funny Too" is on rotation on Sirius XM´s "RawDog" comedy channel. Ryan made his television debut on the third season of Comedy Central's "LIVE AT GOTHAM." In 2011, Ryan made his first USO tour of Qatar and Afghanistan. Ryan took the grand prize at the 2011 World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas and was a finalist in the 2011 Boston Comedy Festival. Ryan was a finalist in the 2012 Laughing Skull Festival. He performed in the 2012 Great American Comedy Festival as well as the "New Faces" showcase at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. Ryan made his television acting debut on TBS´s "Sullivan and Son".
